I-House Rules

We Ihouse inhabitants are enjoying much freedom. But with freedom comes responsibility and there are certain rules that we have to obey. ;)

1. Alcohol
NO ALCOHOL DRINKING OUTSIDE OF THE IHOUSE!
The ihouse is like a force field of freedom. It let's us do things like drinking alcohol for example, a circumstance which isn't the case for other dorms here (e.g. the one next to the ihouse). Just stay inside when drinking alcohol - or go to the 居酒屋 (sake bar), clubs (not the ones offered by the university!) or leave the immediate campus area to do it.
KNOW YOUR LIMIT! (ok, you may want to find your limit first, that's cool - ihouse is known for providing those limit finding opportunities)
The ihouse is about having a good time. Yet, there were cases when the interior of rooms got demolished, doors kicked, people being scared at night by drunks shouting at each other.
Not a good time for the rest of your friends at the ihouse. Keep it down, stay cool and have a good time.
You don't really want the director of the ihouse come over again teaching us about civilized manners. ;) If it were to happen again we would be losing our drinking priviledges for good...
Summary: Never be seen drinking alcohol outside of the ihouse, have a good time by drinking in a responsible manner.

2. Smoking
Seems like a no brainer, but here I go anyway. NO SMOKING INSIDE OF THE IHOUSE!
This includes the wholeness of the ihouse (kitchen, floors, lobby, tatami room, etc.) and your room. Aside from putting your lovely room in obvious danger of burning to the ground, the smell of tabacco will manifest itself to furniture and other kindly provided interiors. The staff will know if you smoked inside, so don't complicate things by doing so.
"Where do I smoke then? I need to smoke!" Don't worry. There are smoking areas (like it is the general case in Japan) provided for exactly that. In the ihouse there is a "smoking balcony" on each floor in the kitchen area.
Summary: Smoke only on the designated smoking balcony area near the kitchen.

3. Emergency Exit
There are quite a few emergency exit doors at the i-house that lead outside on each floor at each side of the building.
DO NOT USE THEM unless there is an emergency like a big life threatening earthquake going on.
People in the past, it has been said, used them to have a quick smoke or just used them for a quick exit. The signs put on those doors clearly tell you the story of your personal future if you'd do it anyway. You will be asked to leave the i-house. So, if you want to have a good time use the normal lobby exit on the ground floor (1階).
Summary: Don't use the emergency exits other than in cases of ...emergency.
